A Unique Combination of the Colt Officer's Model and the Colt Combat Commander

Greg | 12 June 2024

Finding information about the Colt Combat Stallion has proven to be extremely difficult. The model is not listed in my book of gun values. I read on the internet that there were 350 guns made and I've read that there 500 of this model produced.

This exceptional firearm is a unique combination of the Colt Officer's Model and the Colt Combat Commander, merging the best features of both to create a handgun that is not only a marvel of engineering but also a work of art.

The Colt Combat Commander, introduced in 1970, was developed to provide the stopping power of the full-sized 1911 in a slightly more compact and light-weight manageable package. With a full-sized grip and a shorter 4.25-inch barrel, the Combat Commander quickly gained popularity among civilian shooters and law enforcement alike for its balance of size and performance.

The Colt Custom Shop, renowned for its ability to produce limited-run, high-quality firearms, saw an opportunity to blend these two models into a single, unique firearm. The result was the Combat Stallion, a handgun that combines the compact frame of the Officer's model with the aluminum-alloy frame of the Combat Commander.
