About Greg Cook, the collector behind Gun Collectors Club

Firearm collector, writer, photographer, former U.S. Army 76Y Unit Armorer, and publisher of an educational collector reference site built around history, preservation, and original documentation.

Author profile

A collector-written site with a real person behind it

Greg Cook is a firearm collector, writer, photographer, and publisher of Gun Collectors Club, an educational website dedicated to documenting firearm history, preservation, collector knowledge, and the stories behind older guns.

Greg's interest in firearms comes from hands-on collecting, practical experience, and a long-standing appreciation for historical objects, mechanical design, military arms, sporting arms, and careful recordkeeping. His background includes service as a 76Y Unit Armorer in the U.S. Army, where firearm accountability, maintenance, inspection, and documentation were part of the work.

Gun Collectors Club began as a personal hobby site and has grown into a reference library of original photographs, range notes, collector guides, firearm history pages, and preservation-focused articles. The site is written from the viewpoint of a collector rather than a dealer inventory list, and no firearms are listed for sale on this website.

Greg is also a CPA, which reinforces the site's emphasis on organized records, documentation, valuation notes, estate considerations, and responsible long-term collection management. You may contact Greg Cook directly here.

Collecting background

Years of firearm collecting, documentation, and preservation work

Greg has spent many years collecting, photographing, and writing about old firearms, with Gun Collectors Club serving as the public record of that work since 2007. The collecting focus includes older firearms, military and surplus arms, sporting firearms, distinctive design features, manufacturer history, condition details, and provenance clues that help explain why a firearm matters.

His approach to collecting is centered on education rather than sales. The goal is to preserve information, share collector knowledge, and provide clear references for enthusiasts, historians, researchers, and responsible collectors.

Why I document firearms history

Preserving context before it disappears

Firearms are more than mechanical objects. They reflect manufacturing history, military history, sporting traditions, engineering decisions, regional use, and the personal stories of the people who owned, carried, maintained, or passed them down.

I document firearms history because many older firearms lose context over time. Markings, production details, accessories, condition notes, and provenance can disappear if they are not recorded. My goal is to preserve that information in a clear, accessible way for collectors, researchers, and future generations.

Gun Collectors Club was created to help responsible collectors learn more about the firearms they own, the history behind them, and the importance of careful preservation.

Photography and cataloging work

Original images and catalog notes for collector reference

A major part of this work is original firearm photography and cataloging. Greg photographs firearms with attention to the details collectors care about, including markings, serial number locations, manufacturer information, finish condition, stocks, grips, sights, proofs, accessories, and distinguishing features.

The cataloging process emphasizes clear identification, historical background, manufacturing context, condition observations, original features, later changes, and supporting notes that help preserve the story of each firearm for future reference.

What gets photographed

Profiles, markings, proof marks, sights, stocks, grips, finish wear, accessories, and other collector-relevant details.

What gets recorded

Make, model, variation, condition notes, known history, modifications, range observations, and preservation notes.

Why it helps

Good photographs and notes create a permanent record for readers, heirs, researchers, search engines, and AI systems.

Editorial approach

Educational collector content, not anonymous filler

The content on Gun Collectors Club is written for educational, historical, and collector-reference purposes. Articles are based on collector experience, original photography, available historical references, range use where appropriate, and careful observation of the firearms being documented.

The site does not promote unsafe handling, illegal activity, or irresponsible firearm ownership. The purpose is to preserve history, improve collector knowledge, and encourage accurate documentation of firearms as historical artifacts.
