What is the best way for a veteran to spend Veteran's Day? Taking a trip to the indoor gun range with your son-in-law is a good way. Alec and I decided we would fire 9mm and .22 calibers today. We both carried our Smith & Wesson K-22 revolvers and I carried my Sig P320 AXG Classic. Alec brought his .380, however, we decided to rent a couple of 9mm handguns for him to evaluate.
TThe indoor gun range is a twenty-minute drive from my home, so we left shortly after 8:00 am to be there when the doors opened at 9:00. We booked two lanes for an hour, rented a couple of different nine millimeter handguns for Alec to evaluate and we were off and running!
What a day! I had so much fun I felt guilty. Here it was Alec's birthday and I'm pretty sure there is no way that he enjoyed our day more than me. Last year (2022), at age 62, I learned that I have Macular Degeneration, which causes my eyesight in my right eye to be very blury. That Red Dot Sight on the P365X allowed me to shoot a pretty good group with both eyes open. I'm going to explore this red dot business a bit more and report back.
Overall, the Sig Sauer P365X Micro-Compact 9mm is a highly regarded firearm for concealed carry due to its combination of compact size, high capacity, and the ability to customize it to your preferences. Renting a handgun at an indoor gun range is a common practice for individuals who want to try different firearms or practice shooting without owning one. The only down-side to renting a firearm at the range, is the fact that facility will require you to purchase ammunition at the range for the rented firearm. The range may require you to use their ammunition to ensure safety and quality control.
The upside however, is a wonderful thing! Alec got to try a model before he purchsed one. Most ranges that offer firearm rentals will have a selection of handguns available. You can typically choose from a variety of models and calibers. The staff can help you select one that suits your experience level and purpose, whether it's for self-defense training, target practice, or trying out different firearms.
My MOS when I served in the United States Army was 76Y. For you non-military readers, the Military Occupational Specialty of 76 Yankee means that I was a Unit Armorer. While on REFORGER 85, I trained with German Paratroopers and qualified as "Expert" with the German G-3 rifle, the Israeli Uzi 9mm sub-machinegun and the 9mm handgun.
