Left side of receiver & barrel shank
Use the full receiver serial including prefix/suffix letters if present.
First letter = month, second letter = year. The barrel must be original to the shotgun for the date to match the gun.

Model 1100 filter: Remington barrel date letters were used before the Model 1100 existed. This tool ignores pre-1963 matches so it does not report impossible Model 1100 dates.

Quick reference for prefixes, suffixes, and barrel codes
Serial prefix
L – Magnum model clue
M – 12 gauge clue on many examples
N – later Model 1100-era receiver clue
Serial suffix
V – commonly associated with 12 gauge standard 1100s
Other suffix letters may indicate different gauges or configurations.
Barrel month code
Uses the mnemonic BLACK POWDER X:
B=Jan, L=Feb, A=Mar, C=Apr, K=May, P=Jun,
O=Jul, W=Aug, D=Sept, E=Oct, R=Nov, X=Dec.
Barrel year code
Barrel year letters repeat across Remington history. This Model 1100 lookup filters year-code results to the 1963-and-later Model 1100 production era.

Finding the Barrel Code and Serial Number

The Remington Model 1100 barrel date code is stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. On Chris' shotgun, I had to get assistance from an image reader just to be certain the code read DFM. The receiver serial number, located on the left side of the receiver, was much easier to read.
