2014 Night Hawk AAC .45 & Obsidian Suppressor

Enlisting the assistance of the young Range Master, he fired while I took the video. Coincidentally, a guy in the neighboring lane fired a shot at the same time on the first round. Listen to the following rounds though. The young Range Master fired 8 rounds at the target head, placing 6 out of 8 in the same hole.

The ammo I used today was 230 grain Full Metal Jacket. The 7 mags of 8 rounds each that I ran through the gun and suppressor went very smooth. The Range Master ran 2 mags of 8 rounds each. I plan to clean the gun and suppressor before the next trip to the range, which I hope will be next weekend.

Suppressors in Low Visibility Encounters

One of the most significant benefits of a suppressor in low-light conditions is its ability to minimize muzzle flash. The bright burst of light that accompanies a gunshot can temporarily blind the shooter and illuminate their position, both of which are detrimental in a low-visibility encounter. A suppressor contains and disperses the gases that cause the flash, preserving the shooter’s night vision and reducing the risk of detection.

Suppressors significantly reduce the sound signature of a firearm. While they don’t make a gun silent, the lower noise level allows the shooter to maintain better awareness of their surroundings. In a tactical or defensive situation, this means the shooter can focus on identifying potential threats or communicating with others rather than being overwhelmed by the loud report of gunfire.

Fun at the Range

Before you head out to the range, be sure to pick up some Aqulius Bulk Pack Safety Glasses For Men & Women, ANSI Z78.1 Certified For Scratch Impact Resistant for eye protection.

While suppressors offer numerous benefits, they add weight and length to a firearm, which can affect handling. Shooters should practice with their suppressed setup to ensure they’re comfortable and proficient, especially in dynamic low-visibility situations.

Conclusion

First, I can positively dispell the myth that a silencer in any way affects the accuracy of the firearm. The target above shows the results of two 8-round magazines, fired by a 64 year-old guy with Wet AMD (Macular Degeneration) in his right eye. Target distance was 5 yards (15 feet).

In conclusion, a suppressor is an invaluable tool for shooters in low-visibility encounters. By reducing muzzle flash, sound signature, and recoil, suppressors enhance the shooter’s ability to remain undetected, maintain situational awareness, and deliver accurate shots. For those navigating such challenging conditions, the addition of a suppressor can be a game-changer.
